Gas NGV (Natural Gas for Vehicle: NGV) มีภาษาเชิงวิชาการว่า ก๊าซซีเอ็นจี (Compressed Natural Gas: CNG) คือ ก๊าซธรรมชาติที่มี “มีเทน” เป็นส่วนประกอบหลักและถูกอัดจนมีความดันสูง ซึ่งในบางประเทศเรียกว่า “ก๊าซธรรมชาติอัด” (ซีเอ็นจี) ซึ่งถูกอัดที่แรงดัน 200 bar หรือ 3,000 psi และถูกกักเก็บไว้ในถังบรรจุก๊าซธรรมชาติอัดที่ถูกผลิตขึ้นมาเป็นพิเศษให้ สามารถรองรับแรงดันได้ โดยมีสภาพเป็นก๊าซหรือไอที่อุณหภูมิและความดันบรรยากาศ โดยมีค่าความถ่วงจำเพาะต่ำกว่าอากาศ จึงเบากว่าอากาศ เมื่อเกิดการรั่วไหลจะฟุ้งกระจายไปตามบรรยากาศอย่างรวดเร็ว จึงไม่มีการสะสมลุกไหม้บนพื้นราบ
